When God Seems Silent...
Have you ever felt that your prayers are met with
silence from God? You may have listened for His voice through His
Word or through the still small voice of the Spirit only to feel that
He does not respond. God, however, has an excellent purpose for
His silence and He will teach us even in these times.
Here are some things to consider:
1. Are we really listening? It may be that we have
not learned to be quiet and pay attention to Him, or maybe He is
telling us what we don't want to hear so we tune Him out.
2. Do we require preparation? God is in charge of all
things, including our lives and sometimes He knows that we are
not yet ready for what we are asking.
3. Have we learned to distinguish his leading from other
influences? He speaks through the counsel of His word, the inner
voice of the Holy Spirit who leads in concert with His Word and godly
people that He puts in our path - who speak in agreement with the Word.
4. Is there unconfessed sin? Sin is destructive of our
ability to truly be led by God.
5. Is He teaching us to persevere in prayer? It
may be that silence is God's way of making us ready and
vulnerable to Him.
Remember that silence from God does not mean that He is
inactive; rather be confident in His sovereign work and continue in
patient prayer knowing that as we seek Him with our whole heart, He
will be found.
