On Sunday August 15th I shared with our church family a sermon on change. Well, the young adult ministry at Quail has certainly gone through a season of good change. Some changes are still in process, but we are asking good questions, making adjustments, and working hard. All the while, these changes are not for change sake, we are making changes to make our ministry more impactful.
A quick overview:
This is a gathering for young adults and mentors. It is a simple and powerful teaching, worship and prayer time. Mid-week Studies – these small group gathering study various topics and books of the Bible. One current study is going through the “I AM” passages in the Gospel of John.
We are sending 6 women and 6 men to Haiti to work with an orphanage called The Hands and Feet Project. Quail is in the process of developing a partnership with this ministry, but this will be the first group from Quail to go and serve there. This ministry has two orphanages in Haiti and our team will be re-building and working with the kids.
An outreach in the context of art and music where young adults can genuinely engage in conversation and relationship in a way that reflects and models Jesus. The vision is to be consistently out in the community building bridges and pointing people to Jesus. The HUB happens 1-2 times per month. I was not proud of the recent article in The Record regarding The HUB, the columnist missed and mangled many aspects of The HUB, but I don’t expect a secular newspaper to “get it” – let’s press forward.
We are helping/serving with Peniel again this year to put on the Happy Birthday Jesus Party on Sat Dec 18th.
What has not changed in the young adult ministry is our commitment to reach and disciple young adults to live radically for Jesus in a difficult world. We are committed to the Gospel, absolute truth, the inerrancy of the Bible, sacrificially loving our neighbors as ourselves, biblical community, etc.
If you care about the young adult ministry please pray. If you want to change lives pray, and then come be part of the answer.
