Baptism

Baptism is a very important step of faith and obedience in following our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself was baptized and commanded us to follow His example (Matt. 28:16-20). Baptism does not save us, rather we are baptized to proclaim our salvation in a public way. We are saved by grace when we put our trust in Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-9). Baptism, then, is an outward sign or picture of what has already taken place in our lives.

It is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the person being baptized goes under the water and then is lifted up out of the water, a picture depicting that the believer has “died to sin and is alive in Christ” (Rom. 6:1-7). It’s a picture of the total washing from sin that took place at the time of salvation.

Baptism is making a bold proclamation to others, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back” (Matt. 10:32).

We believe Scripture teaches “believers baptism by immersion.” The word for baptism in the Greek language, “baptizo,” means “to dip or immerse under.” And immersion really captures the meaning that those who belong to Christ “[have been] buried with him in baptism and raised with him [through their faith] in the power of God who raised him from the dead” (Col. 2:12).

Baptisms take place four times a year and there is a baptism briefing to attend before being baptized. If you are interested in learning more about baptism or being baptized, please watch the video and fill out the contact form below. We will be happy to send you more information.
