Quail’s M&TA department:
Serving God behind the scenes
If you don’t like the spotlight and prefer to labor anonymously “behind the curtain”, Quail’s M&TA team can be a great place to serve the Lord and our Church body. Stealth, low-profile, no attention. Let’s be honest: Some of us just like to serve that way!
Our first priority is to serve God by enhancing and supporting the worship and teaching here at Quail. As you’d expect, a big part of serving on our Team involves technical stuff, and working with some pretty awesome equipment. We hone our technical skills and techniques, and learn new stuff all the time. And, we have a lot of fun in a very nurturing and supportive environment.
The Explore & See experience is designed to immerse you, without any obligation on your part, so you can experience first-hand what it’s like to serve on our M&TA team in a given area. After all, we only want you to join us if that’s where God wants you to serve and it’s a good fit for all concerned. We utilize a “shadowing/mentoring” model that is individually paced to suit your own learning style.
The audio operator controls the Sanctuary sound system during Sunday morning services and other special events, and also reconfigures the stage (mics, monitors, cables, etc.) for different events.
In the Sanctuary, the lighting operator controls the visual impact of lighting in our services and for special events. We use both conventional theatrical and intelligent (“mover”) lights.
We use live video in our services, and the camera operators generate these images from three different camera positions.
We utilize an environmental projection (“EP”) system in our Sanctuary for special events, and the EP operator triggers the visuals on cue during services and performances. This also involves the creation of specialized imagery for our unique projection format.
The video switcher selects from among several sources (cameras, graphics, lyrics and video) to determine what is shown on the screens, and directs the camera operators via our comm system.
We create lots of in-house content on a regular basis. There are regular opportunities for those with demonstrated skills in this area to contribute to this process.
The graphics operator oversees the running of announcement slides, song lyrics and teaching slides for the sermons.
