Humility is not a pleasant topic in many churches today. Modern churches are more likely to endorse the idea of self-esteem. But when we juxtapose this idea with what the Bible teaches, self-esteem or self-worth is not the calling of the Christian life. God does not command us to look into ourselves and find our own worth; instead, He calls us to look to Jesus Christ. Just like one modern hymn says:

Was it your mom or dad, your friend, your grandparents or someone else?
