Today’s lesson – The Hall of Faith

This unknown author describes faith to us and how we can recognize it in those remembered in the Old Testament. This is referred to as the “Hall of Faith” because it is where some of the people that had strong faith are spoken about. We see that faith can provide strength, sometimes physically but mostly emotionally. Faith can provide strength to withstand fear and lack of courage.

As you drive, point out how quickly objects go by. There is a trust we put in the car and those driving around us. Discuss the faith you put in your car — that it will hold you up, get you to where you are going, etc.

At home...

Read Hebrews 11:1-12:2

When we read about those mentioned in Hebrews 11, we see a tremendous amount of strength. But we shouldn’t see a strength of those that are mentioned, we should see God’s strength. This is the strength that is given to those who put their faith in God. God gives us strength to do mighty things when we place our faith in Him.

Use a chair as an example. We have faith that the chair will hold our body up. This is simple faith. We don’t ask the chair, we don’t question the chair, we just believe that it will do its job. Discuss a time when you saw God’s strength revealed through your faith. Share a moment when maybe your faith wavered and you noticed your weakness/fear was being exposed.

Around the table...

This passage shows us that these people had faith that the Lord would keep His promises. Isaac has never seen the amount of people in Israel and how they outnumber the stars. Moses did not get to see the Israelites make it to the Promised Land. They didn’t lose faith because of it but gained strength to persevere through some tough times. They were able to reveal God’s strength.

Discuss something that you have faith in the Lord about that has yet to happen. Talk about how hard it is to not take control and to let God lead.

GO DEEPER: Talk about which person in the Bible you can relate to the most. Talk about how their faith has encouraged you to have equal faith in the promises of God.
