1 Cor. 16:13
Jesus took Peter, James, and John (the brother of James) up a mountain. This was a special time for Jesus and the disciples, because these three disciples were travelling on a special trip where they were the only ones invited. Peter recognizes this by saying, “Lord, it is good for us to be here”.
Mention how riding in the car is a special time. It’s a time away from all the busyness of life. In the car you can be quiet with one another or talk about special things. Take this moment and discuss the Glory of Christ, how wonderful He is.
Jesus shone as brightly as the sun in front of the three disciples who accompanied Him to the mountaintop. As He was revealing His glory, two figures appeared. One was Moses, the keeper of the Law, and the other was Elijah, the keeper of the prophets. Pictured here we see the full representation of God in Jesus. At this time God once again claims Jesus as His Son by saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to HIM!”
Take turns and share a time when you saw Christ in your life. Describe how He was glorified. Then, take a moment and share some affirmations about everyone. Give praises to God for the good things you see in everyone in your family.
On their way down the mountain, Jesus told the disciples to keep what they had witnessed a secret! He told them NOT to tell anyone about it until after He had risen from being dead. This confused the disciples, even though Jesus had told them before about His death. Jesus did not want the disciples spreading that they had seen Jesus glorified in front of them, along with witnessing Moses and Elijah. Jesus knew that the people would NOT understand.
Have you ever been told by the Spirit to do something that confused you but you did it anyway and saw the glory of God through it? If so, share that story. If not, describe a time that someone asked you to keep a secret but you couldn’t.
GO DEEPER: Discuss as a family the transfiguration. The transfiguration of Jesus is His revealing of rebuilding the temple, of the resurrection.
