Dear Quail, I think it is true for all of us that this time of restriction is dragging on, and the new requirements and restrictions are becoming a bit confusing. For some, this is causing conflict and frustration.
Recently, I have seen an uptick of the number of people who are talking to me about family squabbles and times of anger and frustration that have boiled over, sometimes causing tension in an otherwise happy home.So is here another positive pandemic principle:
“We can receive second chances from God, and knowing that, brings hope.”
Have you blown it lately? Listen to these verses…
But because of His great love for us, God, Who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5
These verses have to do with that second chance that God gives us at salvation. We are dead in our sins. In the view of God, we are just walking corpses, waiting for a place to go lie down. But God gives second chances. He offers forgiveness that changes everything. That brings relief, assurance and hope.
These second chances of forgiveness and renewal continue as we walk with Him. Every day we will make mistakes. There will be times when we could have handled this or that better, could have said this or that with more grace or consideration. Bring these issues to God. He remains “rich in mercy” and is willing to forgive.
This is from Max Lucado (I see him posting a lot these days). He once wrote,
“No one ever found Jesus to be close minded if they were openhearted. No one ever found the future blocked if they were willing to repent of the past.”
Our Governor, as he gives us the daily updates, talks about “meeting the moment” of this Pandemic. By that he means the work of the medical professionals and the supply lines and emergency response people and all of us doing our part. But believers are called to “meet the moment” as well, wrapped in the grace of God and being part of what He is doing in the world. We will not do that perfectly – but don’t let that get you down. God gives second chances.
