God Works by Appointment

Dear Quail,
In Habakkuk 2:3, we read “…Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” NIV

God is a God of order. Everything He does, He does by appointment. An appointment is simply an event that has been set up in advance. God has appointments set up for you, a scheduled time for bringing to pass two specific things in your life, His promises and His plans. You can count on the fact that the appointment is coming.

Now, the problem is that often we seek to rush God’s timing. We need to understand that as the Lord gives us a promise, that promise is like a seed. That seed needs time to take root and grow.

Psalm 37:34, in the New Living Translation, says: “Don't be impatient for the LORD to act! Travel steadily along his path….”

Waiting for the Lord’s appointment is not just sitting still, it is being on the right path! If you don’t want to risk delaying or derailing the fulfillment of what God has in mind for you, be on the path and travel steadily. As the prophet says, it will surely come, but it comes by appointment.

As we travel that pathway of faith we will see that there are small appointments along the way. Opportunities to do good, to be a blessing. I am hearing stories about some of you who are using the “parentheses” in our normal behavior due to the pandemic to take action in a way that might not have happened without this period of time.

Some are making phone calls in a systematic way spreading joy and encouragement, while others are purposefully reaching out to neighbors that they have simply exchanged waves with prior to this time. I am hearing of socially distant hospitality and systematic encouragement via notes and supportive e-mails. The opportunities to experience these mini-appointments are all around us as we travel the path “steadily.”

Today if you feel yourself getting anxious or impatient, remember that God has an appointment for you. He will arrive at just the right time to accomplish the promises and plans that He has for your life.
