In Psalm 46:10 we read, “Be still and know that I am God…”
Be still! Most of us do not do “stillness” very well. Sometimes it takes all of our strength and concentration to simply sit still. However, I think there is such a thing as “Godly inactivity”. This is when we concentrate on taking our hands off what we need to entrust into God’s keeping and care. He understands the situations that we are in better than we ever could and, when the time is right, He will do wonders!
It is frustrating to have something near to your grasp but not be able to reach it, especially when you see that others are seemingly getting more by way of blessings than you are experiencing. But, right there is where we need to be still more than ever.
Canadian preacher A.B. Simpson once wrote, “…often is this nothing as godly as inactivity on our part, nor anything as harmful as restless working, for God has promised to work His sovereign will.”
Are you at a place where Godly inactivity is called for? It takes trust, it demands humility (know that he is God and we are not), it is often hard. However, as we rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him to work, we will find that He works at just the right time.
Be still and know that he is God and you will see His hand moving in your life.
His and yours,
