Resurrection Sunday is almost here, and it reminds us that Jesus promised something that no other religious leader in history could, that He would return from the dead and that He would see to it that His followers would also rise from the grave.
The Apostle Paul describes it this way…
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when He comes, those who belong to Him. 1 Corinthians 15:22-23
The word “first fruits” could be translated “prototype.” Christ is the example of what we who are His will all experience one day. The day of that experience is still classified information, but the fact of that day is guaranteed by the reality of Christ’s victory over the grave on that first Resurrection Sunday. Jesus has already delivered on the first portion of His promise of resurrection and He will be true to keep it completely for us.
We will one day have a resurrection body, based on His prototype, and in that eternal body we will live forever with Him in what the Bible calls the new heaven and the new earth.
So this Resurrection Sunday, rejoice in this message, it is one that dries our tears, calms our fears and assures us that in Christ, our best days are yet to come.
He has risen, He has risen indeed!
