The Potter’s Hands

Dear Quail,

At one point in his ministry, the prophet Jeremiah was told to go down to the potter’s house and there he would be instructed by the Lord. This is what happened…

Jeremiah 18:3-6 (NIV)

3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

The clay was crushed and reshaped into something better! Who crushed it? The potter. That potter represents God.

Here is the good news. Life may be causing some things in your life right now to be “marred.” These are difficult days and little cracks may be appearing in various ways, or the issues you face may not be so little at all! However, if you are a follower of Jesus, you are still in God’s hands. Your friends, even your family, may think that you are beyond repair but God doesn’t and it is his opinion that really matters. He is always able, no matter the circumstances and challenges, to reshape our lives into something beautiful.

If you feel like your life is spinning out of control, remember that you are actually spinning on the potter’s wheel. It may not be pleasant for the strong hands of God to remold and reshape us, but it is the result that we look forward to. The final product of His work will be beautiful.

I find both of these thoughts compelling. Rest in His hands, allow His molding to take shape, walk in obedience to His Word and the time will come when you will be glad at the new thing He is doing in your life.

His and Yours,
Pastor Marc
